Director of Programmes
Location: Home Working – with travel requirement to project sites and Respect’s offices as necessary: Voluntary Action Islington, 200A Pentonville Road, London, N1 9JP.
Salary: Respect Pay Scale 58-60, £62,756 (plus a London Allowance of £3,299 for employees living in London), plus 6% employers pension subject to a minimum 2% contribution by the employee)
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week, permanent
Responsible to: Deputy CEO
Responsible for: Heads of Programmes – 5 posts
About the role:
We are looking for an experienced senior leader with an extensive track record in leading multiple and complex workstreams.
The Director of Programmes is a pivotal new role on our Executive Leadership Team, overseeing the strategic direction, financial accountability and best practice of Respect’s portfolio of projects and programmes. Managing a team of highly skilled Heads of programmes, the new Director will provide strategic oversight of 50+ practice-focused staff, developing and implementing systems that support collaborative working, shared best practice, donor compliance and good communication.
This role requires significant collaboration with the Deputy CEO and the Sector Support team to ensure alignment and integration of initiatives across the organisation. The successful candidate will also work alongside senior colleagues to help Respect implement its overall strategy
About you:
- Significant experience in a Senior/Executive Leadership position for an organisation with an income over £1m/year
- Ability to think strategically and experience of designing programmes strategy and supporting implementation
- Experience of working in a partnership with other organisations using matrix management, and managing the challenges that may arise
- Experience of managing growth and/or change within an organisation
- An understanding of the root causes of domestic abuse on both an individual and societal level

Respect is a pioneering UK membership organisation in the domestic abuse sector. Founded in 2000, we have built our expertise over the last 25 years in what was then a fledgling sector and recently have seen significant and rapid growth. Respect has seen rapid growth over the last few years, and we now have 60+ staff running a range of projects and core activities and have ambitious plans for further growth and influence.
