REUBEN SINGH'S RESPECT
Monday 17 November, The Lowry Hotel, Salford, Manchester
TimeBank, the national volunteering charity launches the first of a series
of interfaith meals today to raise awareness of its 'respect'
initiative. The 'respect' meals will bring together
prominent people of different faiths and backgrounds to discuss
interfaith issues.
The first meal will take place on the evening of Monday 17
November, at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, Manchester and is
being hosted by local entrepreneur Reuben Singh. He has invited
over 20 prominent leaders from the business, public and voluntary
sector in the North West. Amongst those attending are Perween
Warsi, CBE - Chief Executive of S & A Foods, Brenda Smith
- Managing Director of Granada Television and the Editors
of The Sikh Times.
The meals will serve as a forum to discuss issues and causes
that the group feel they can work towards together. It is
hoped that they will prove a springboard for close interfaith
working on a number of local projects.
'respect' is a national initiative developed
together with The Prince's Trust and senior faith leaders
throughout the UK. It aims to inspire and engage people of
different faiths and those of none to give time to each other
and their local community. It encourages people within faith
communities to participate in local projects that benefit
the community as a whole and provides information and ideas
to help people get started.
