Beyond belief

Welcome to respect. On this website you'll find everything you need to know about the UK-wide campaign to get people of all faiths and none to spend more time with each other. The idea is for us all to get to understand one another more. We've put together loads of ideas to help you come up with ways to benefit you and your community. We'd also like you to tell us about things you're doing already that create respect between people of different backgrounds.

So how did respect start?
On 3 January 2000, an event was held at the Houses of Parliament bringing together leaders of the UK's faith communities. They made a pledge to work together to promote the values they shared, like care and compassion, justice and peace and respect for one another.

The interfaith declaration – an Act of Commitment
We commit ourselves,
as people of many faiths,
to work together
for the common good,
uniting to build a better society,
grounded in values and ideals we share:

community,
personal integrity,
a sense of right and wrong,
learning, wisdom and love of truth,

care and compassion,
justice and peace,
respect for one another,
for the earth and its creatures.

We commit ourselves,
in a spirit of friendship and co-operation,
to work together
alongside all who share our values and ideals,
to help bring about a better world
now and for generations to come.

It's a great idea, isn't it?
Now all we need is you. You can get involved as a group or individual, as a person of any faith or none.
